Pancreatitis Pain: Causes and Treatments
The pancreas is an organ in the body that aids in digestion as well as the regulation of sugars and glucose. It releases digestive enzymes into the small intestine to aid in the break down and absorption of food. It also produces insulin and glucagon to help control blood sugar levels and support cell energy.
Pancreatitis occurs when the digestive enzymes released by the pancreas are activated too early. The enzymes don’t have time to reach the small intestine, and they attack the pancreas. This leads to inflammation and damage to the organ. Pancreatitis may be brought on by too much alcohol, drugs, bad diet, toxins, viral and other infections.
Symptoms of Pancreatitis
The inflammation and damage of pancreatitis can cause severe, upper stomach pain that radiates to the back, infection throughout the intestines, internal bleeding, and/or cysts. Fever and vomiting, as well as increased heart rate, are other symptoms. More severe cases can damage other organs, including the kidneys, heart, and lungs.
There are two types of pancreatitis.
Acute pancreatitis is a sudden attack of limited duration, whereas chronic pancreatitis consists of continuing symptoms and repeated attacks over time.
Treating My Pancreatitis
Conventional methods of treating pancreatitis can include anti-inflammatory medications and pain medications. However, treating this condition naturally is possible.
Because pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas, reducing inflammation is a logical first step. Eating foods that are rich in anti-inflammatory properties can help. Consuming small meals that are low in fat places less strain on the pancreas during an attack. Increasing your fluid uptake can ensure you avoid dehydration.
